RMK Liquid Foundation [102] [[REVIEW]]

I recently received a question about the favourite liquid foundation of Japanese models.

Now, a flip through any of the GAL magazines, be it POPTEEN or EGG will reveal that a lot of the models use RMK.

As mentioned before, RMK is a Japan based cosmetics company that has branches in countries such as Bangkok and Singapore. Their range is quite extensive, covering everything from makeup to skincare but back to the foundation.

At the risk of sounding like an advertisement voiceover, there are a few types of foundations found at the RMK counter from powder to pressed and finally liquid foundation. The two most commonly used ones are the RMK Liquid Foundation and RMK Creamy Foundation.

I’ll talk about both, but my focus will be the RMK Liquid Foundation.

The RMK Liquid Foundation offers lighter texture and excellent coverage and the RMK Creamy Foundation is supposed to have heavier texture + coverage and be suitable even for people with oily skin.

I’ve got combination skin and I use the RMK Liquid Foundation because I prefer a lighter finish.

Each bottle comes with 30ML worth of product and it retails for round about 72.00SGD if I’m not mistaken.

While I would usually complain, I won’t with this foundation because really, a little goes a very long way. In fact, the amount I usually use is about the size of a 20 cent coin or less to cover my entire face and I’ll still have some excess product after that.

The liquid foundation comes in nine shades ranging from the super light to coffee brown (which they spelt brouwn on the website). I chose 102 because it’s the most natural one.

✘ Make sure you shake the bottle before you start to use it.

Each bottle comes with a screw top and the same problems that I mentioned in my RMK Makeup Base review. (I always use this over my RMK Makeup Base)

The bottle is incredibly heavy and there always is a risk of breaking the glass bottle so bringing it out on the field is a no-no for me.

Also, because the opening of the bottle is so large, wastage is a definite concern – check out the product that collected on the cap of my bottle because I got lazy didn’t wipe the mouth of the bottle after using it.

Lesson learnt, I’ll always wipe the top of the bottle, pinky promise.

I’ve tried BB creams and other liquid foundations from other brands like Dior before but so far, I prefer RMK more because it doesn’t have a strong scent and it offers great coverage.

Speaking of coverage, it’s the king out of my makeup stash. It will cover ANY unevenness in my skin tone and give me a perfect finish under my Chacott Loose Powder.

I usually pour a good 20 cent amount on my palm, dot it on my cheeks, nose, chin and forehead and then spread it with my TOFU Makeup Sponge but when I’m REALLY lazy, I’ll just spread with out with my fingers. Yes, I still get an even finish with that (I’m such a bad influence, bleargh)

✘ As with all liquid foundations, if too much is applied, it will cake and crease. Using more will not give a more perfect finish, it will it just look thick! NG, NG!

Some girls have concerns about foundations breaking them out but really, a lot of it boils down to how effectively makeup is removed from the skin. I usually use my Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil and double cleanse (facial wash + exfoliate) after that.

I haven’t experienced any problems with this foundation up till today and I’ve been using it for a month now, so far so good.

Where’s the RMK counter in Singapore?
I know of two so far… Takashimaya and Isetan Scotts, dear. Both are at Orchard.

So how much is it again?
The exact price escapes me and my mom stole my spare bottle so I don’t have a box to check it against but I’m sure it’s over 70 SGD.

I don’t use my fingers…. I use a brush to do my foundation… How can you possibly use your fingers, don’t you feel icky?!
XD Personal preferences dear! It’s great that you use a brush, I’ll use my fingers only when I’m really lazy…. Well… Yeah, I’ll have to wash my hands after doing that but if I use my sponge I’ll have to wash THAT! T_T -lazy-

The bottle is glass?!
Yup! Haha, I know right?! But at least we know that it doesn’t feel cheap. XD

Have you experienced any breakouts so far?
Quite frankly, no… And as I mentioned before, a lot of it is about the removing of makeup rather than the product itself. Provided of course, some people are allergic to the ingredients. Now that’s a whole different ball game altogether!

So should I remove it?
The first thing will be to cleanse off with your makeup remover. Honest. Nothing beats that, don’t bother using just soap cause some makeup will never come completely off with just that. After that, wash with your normal facial wash and then finally, exfoliate. And then… =_=||| Tell you what, I’ll just do a tutorial on this. XD

Which shade should I get?
Well, the sure fire way would be to head down to the counter and get yourself matched dear, but I’m  an NC30 and I actually straddle between 102 and 103 -grins- When the SA applies it on your skin, know that indoor light is always tricky so make sure you ask for a sample and walk away (Don’t buy on the spot). You must be able to test the colour when you’re out in sunlight so you’ll get the best gauge.

Anything else?
Wear it for a day to get a feel of how heavy/light it is on your own skin because remember, whatever the sales person says is what she says, but everyone’s skin is different and the one using the product is you so your comfort is the most important part of it all.

None of the shades match my skintone! I’m like.. Somewhere in between?
Yup! It’s normal, dear ❤ What you can do is buy two bottles and custom mix your colours!
