Dolly Wink #8 (Pure Little) Lower Lashes PART 1! ♥

Posted in Dolly Wink, KOJI by Jae on June 22, 2010

Ahhh… So I finally managed to edit all my pictures with my watermark and can finally get down to the review proper! I’ll rant about photobucket later on. XD

I’ve been very excited by the relaunch of Dolly Wink products in Singapore mainly because:

1) It’s by the gorgeous Tsubasa Masuwaka and I would kill to have her nose.
2) A lot of models use these products.
3) The products I’ve used from this brand so far, the eyeliners, haven’t failed my expectations, so I was keen to see how main products (the lashes) would measure up against my Melliesh lower lashes and the rest.

In this particular case, remember one of my older posts when I mentioned that my partner bought Dolly Wink Lower Lash #8 (Pure Little) for me? XD I was excited to try it out because a lot of the magazines have been using it to achieve natural looks for spring (Thank god, I was getting tired of super heavy eye makeup).

A small warning that this review will be picture heavy!

Ready? Here we go!

First, let’s talk about packaging. (Yes, I’m a sucker for packaging, but you already knew that XD)

Dolly Wink #8 comes in a red box that looks strangely inspired by Minnie Mouse, (cue flashback from my very first post about Tsubasa and her Minnie Mouse MOOK collaboration) and the makeup for Tsubasa is well, how you say, perfect. It’s interesting to note though, that in that shot, Tsubasa used two sections of the four strand lash and 1 section of the two strand lash for each eye. I’ll explain about the four strand, two strand business as we go along.

A big black bow sits right at the top and I can hear you laughing at me about ribbons already.

Flip over to the back and you’ll get a close up of Tsubasa’s eyes as well as instructions as to how to apply the lashes.

<To Use>
1) Carefully remove the lashes from the case, starting from the outer corners.
*Tip: Use a tweezer to better protect your false lashes.
2) Make sure to differentiate between the right and left lashes accordingly.
3) Holding the lashes at both ends, gently flex it around 10 times to soften it.
4) If necessary, trim the lashes to 2-3mm shorter than the width of your eye.
5) Apply eyelash glue sparingly all along the lash band.
6) Leave glue to dry for a few seconds before affixing as close to natural lash as possible.
7) Light press all along lash band from center to the sides and back to fix into place.

While I’m not usually inclined to disagree with instructions on the back of packages, I’ve got to say those are some pretty… Strange instructions – because it’s going to be heck difficult to flex lower lashes of this size. XD So here’s my version, specially for you.

<To Use: By Jae>
5) Apply eyelash glue sparingly generously all along the lash band.
6) Depending on the type of glue you use, leave glue to dry for a few seconds an appropriate amount of time before affixing as close to natural lash as possible.
7) Light press all along lash band from center to the sides and back to fix into place

I started laughing when I read the “2-3mm shorter than the width of your eye” bit cause for these lashes, if you trim even the tiniest bit, nothing would be left. What do I mean? Check this out:

Dolly Wink’s #8 comes in two designs and you’ll only get one pair of each. Yes, this means stock up or risk running out, what a way to make us buy more. >_<

When you open up the box, you’ll get a tray of both lashes plus a small tube of Dolly Wink glue that’s oh-so-cute.

Haha! Spot something a little different about these lashes as compared to my previous lower lashes?

The first design is the two lash strand and the second, is the four lash strand but that’s not all, look closely here.

Yup, they’ve already been cut up for you so all you have to do is pick them up, apply a good amount of glue and stick them on. This made me really happy cause the last time I had to cut lashes up, I had a field day trying to make sure they fell into the box and not somewhere else.

The lash strands are very soft and very smooth but keep in mind that they’re short and in sections.

The lash band for all the Dolly Wink eyelashes are transparent so you don’t have to worry about them looking too artificial. Transparent lash bands are extremely important for lower lashes because it makes it look natural. Can you imagine having a line across your lower lashes like someone took a liner and drew your lower lid? -shivers-

Anyways, this time, I tried just one section of the four strand lower lashes and made this comparison shot for you!

Can you guess which is the eye with the lower lashes and which is the eye without? 😀

Haha, the one of the left has the lash and the one on the right doesn’t! It’s quite a big difference isn’t it?! It really does open up the eyes…

Here’s a close up shot!

The best part about the lashes is that it blends into my natural lash line very well and are very comfortable cause well, they’re so small, they’re hardly noticeable. XD

So there we go! My first Dolly Wink lower lash review~

♡♡♡ Dolly Wink #8 (Pure Little) Lower Lashes ♡♡♡

✔ Volume: 5/10 [It’s very natural but adds just enough volume so that it makes my eyes look a little more well-defined.]
✔ Ease of application: 10/10 [It’s already cut!]
✔ Reusable? Yup! Haha, just don’t drop it okay?

Verdict:
It’s not exactly the most value-for-money seeing that you only get one pair of each design but on the other hand, one might say it’s precisely because you get two designs that it’s value-for-money so while I will definitely consider rebuying, I’m not going to give it full marks overall.

The effects of the lashes though, I will not question. It was easy to apply and definitely one of my personal favourites. =D

Yessss~~~~ I’ll be back with a part 2 to this review! But just for now, I leave you with this quote from Tsubasa ~
